®? Harmothoe glabra (Malmgren, 1865)

DISTRIBUTION: NA.

NEW RECORDS: BM52, BM53, BM54.

REMARKS: These are the first records from the Adriatic Sea. However, the identification is uncertain and in need of verification. According to Chambers & Muir (1997) H. glabra occurs in the North East Atlantic and the Mediterranean Sea, while Barnich & Fiege (2003) consider the presence of this species in the Mediterranean as uncertain. Harmothoe glabra has been often confused or synonymized with H. longisetis ( Grube, 1863) , but according to Barnich & Fiege (2000) the two species should be considered as distinct. Due to the confusion between the two taxa, all literature records of these species in the Mediterranean Sea and North-Eastern Atlantic are doubtful and need to be confirmed ( Barnich & Fiege 2000, 2003).

Harmothoe impar (Johnston, 1839)

DISTRIBUTION: NA, CA, SA.

LITERATURE RECORDS: Stossich 1876, 1883; Carus 1884; Graeffe 1905; Fauvel 1938; Katzmann 1972, 1973a, 1973f; Matjašić & Štirn 1975; Igić 1982; Amoureux 1983a; Fassari 1983; Katzmann 1983; Požar-Domac 1983; Zavodnik & Vidaković 1987; Požar-Domac 1994; Zahtila 1995; Maggiore 2002; Castelli et al. 2008. OTHER REPORTED NAMES: Evarnella impar Johnston, 1839 ; Harmothoe reticulata (Claparède, 1870) ; Polynoe reticulata Claparède, 1870 .

REMARKS: Due to the confusion of H. impar with other similar taxa ( H. aspera (Hansen, 1879) , H. bellani Barnich & Fiege 2000 , H. extenuata ( Grube 1840) , H. fragilis Moore, 1910 , H. gilchristi Day, 1960 , H. goreensis Augener, 1918 and H. pagenstecheri Michaelsen, 1896 ), the previous records of these species in the Mediterranean and North East Atlantic are doubtful and need to be confirmed ( Barnich & Fiege 2003). The previous records of H. reticulata (Claparède, 1870) in the Adriatic should be referred to H. impar .

? Harmothoe johnstoni (McIntosh, 1876)

LITERATURE RECORDS: Laubier 1962; Požar-Domac 1983, 1994; Crema et al. 2001; Simonini et al. 2007; Castelli et al. 2008.

REMARKS: Tebble & Chambers (1982) considered Evarne johnstoni McIntosh, 1876 indeterminable, as the type specimen lacks elytra and the description is insufficient to characterize the taxon.
