Ulidiidae View in CoL View at ENA
This worldwide family, proposed by Macquart in 1835, contains nearly 700 species ( Evenhuis & Pape 2020). Until recently these flies were treated within the Otitidae ( Soós 1984c, Belcari et al. 1995b), but the use of the older name of Ulidiidae is the correct one ( Kameneva & Korneyev 1994, Pape et al. 2011, Marshall 2012). In his “ Stirps Ortalidinae ”, rather than in the family Ulidiidae, Rondani (1856, 1869a ) described 13 Palaearctic nominal species, eight considered as valid, four as junior synonyms and one as doubtful ( Soós 1984c, Rivosecchi 1992, Belcari et al. 1995b, Kameneva 1997). Rondani (1869a) proposed a new replacement names for a species previously described and named by Macquart. In his paper on the Rondani types at MZUB, Morge (1959a) listed two unpublished names (nomina nuda ) of Rondani. Soós (1982a, 1983) examined the type material in the MZUF and designated a lectotype for Herina ghilianii Rondani, 1869 , Ortalis immaculata Rondani, 1869 , Ceroxys pomariana Rondani, 1869 , Macheirocera grandis Rondani, 1869 , Melieria etrusca Rondani, 1869 , Melieria parmensis Rondani, 1869 , Melieria subapennina Rondani, 1869 and Tetanops contarinii Rondani, 1869 . Except for the type material of two nominal species, which are presumed lost, the type material has been recovered for all nominal species and is distributed between the MZUF (eight), MRSN (four) and MHNL (one).
