This family of acalyptrate flies contains more than 800 species ( Evenhuis & Pape 2020). Rondani (1843d, 1845b, 1850 c, 1856, 1857, 1863, 1865a, 1868a, 1873e, 1874a) described 21 Palaearctic, one Neotropical and one Afrotropical nominal species. Eight of these are currently considered as valid, 13 as junior synonyms and two as doubtful ( Papavero 1971, Smith 1980, Chvála & Smith 1988, Rivosecchi & Scaramozzino 1995, Rivosecchi & Mei 1998, Mei & Stuke 2008, Stuke 2016, 2017). Rondani proposed three new substitute names for species previously described and named by other authors and also proposed a new name as a synonym not made available by use as a valid species before 1961 ( Rondani 1857, 1874a). Rivosecchi & Mei (1998) designated a lectotype for Sicus femoralis Rondani, 1865 , Sphixosoma punctitarsis Rondani, 1865 and Spixosoma aureifasciata Rondani, 1857 , all of them in the MZUF. Here, we designate a lectotype for Myopa punctum Rondani, 1857 . The type material has been recovered for all nominal species and is distributed among the MZUF (17), MSNC (four), OUMNH (three), MRSN (one), MSNG (one), MSNPV (one), MZUB (one) and MZUN (one).
