Figs 2–3 View FIGURES 1 – 3 , 10–17 View FIGURES 10 – 17

Examined material. Holotype female labeled “ COSTA RICA: Heredia, OTS-La Selva, 100m, stem gall on Anemopaegma chrysoleucum , iv.2002, P. Hanson”. Deposited in USNM. Paratypes (two females, one male) with the same labels as holotype (1 female, 1 male in USNM, 1 female in MZCR).

Etymology. tatianae (Latinized, noun) = genitive singular, feminine, named in honor of Taťána Bouċek, wife of Zdeněk Bouċek and Petr Janšta´s adoptive grandmother.

Diagnosis and identification. Ventral margin of clypeus well developed and produced ( Fig. 11 View FIGURES 10 – 17 ), F4–F7 more or less transverse, only F1–F3 longer than broad ( Fig. 10 View FIGURES 10 – 17 ), midlobe of mesoscutum smooth only in posterior onequarter, frenum reticulate, propodeum without submedian carinae ( Figs 12, 13 View FIGURES 10 – 17 ), postmarginal vein long, nearly 3X as long as stigmal vein ( Fig. 15 View FIGURES 10 – 17 ), only Gt2–Gt4 with posteromedian emargination, ovipositor nearly twice as long as rest of body ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1 – 3 ).

Description. FEMALE. Holotype. Length of body 2.3 mm, length of ovipositor 4.3 mm. Head, scape, pedicel, mesosoma and hind coxae dark with blue-green metallic tint. Flagellum, tegula, fore and mid coxae, all femora and tibiae and gaster, including ovipositor sheaths, brown. Tarsomeres 1, 2 and 5 pale brown, 3 and 4 yellow. Wings hyaline, wing veins and setae brown.

Head. 1.1X as broad as high; 1.9X as broad as long; 1.3X broader than mesoscutum in its widest part in dorsal view; HTE: LTE = 1.4; HTE:MSP = 3. Temples short, 0.2X LTE. Ventral margin of clypeus slighty produced and slightly emarginate in middle ( Fig. 11 View FIGURES 10 – 17 ). Mouth 2X length of MSP. Scape 7X as long as width of its basal part, curved along whole length ( Fig. 14 View FIGURES 10 – 17 ). Antennal segments with relative measurements = 22:4:1:11:8:8:8:7:6:6:14; pedicel 1.3X, anellus 0.3X, F1 2.2X, F2 1.3X, F3 1.3X, F4 1.6X, F5 1.0X, F6 0.9X, F7 0.9X and clava 2X as long as broad. Ocelli relatively large, POL 1.6X OOL, the latter 0.9X OD ( Fig. 10 View FIGURES 10 – 17 ).

Mesosoma. Mesonotum 2.1X as long as broad. Dorsal part of pronotum 1.4X as broad as long, with irregularly serrate sculpture, lateral panels of pronotum and the posterior part of pronotum more or less smooth or at most with alutaceous sculpture; pronotum flat, without differentiated collar. Mesoscutum 1.4X as broad as long, with reticulate sculpture except posterior one-quarter of midlobe smooth, and disc of lateral lobes alutaceous. Axillae alutaceous. Scutellum 1X as broad as long; conspicuously reticulated with reticulations smaller and more abundant in proximal part ( Fig. 12, 13 View FIGURES 10 – 17 ). Propodeum smooth and mostly shiny with only inconspicuous rugosity in middle, and one row of foveae anteriorly and posteriorly. Mid tibia with spur relatively long, 2X width of tibia. Hind tibia with longer spur 1.9X shorter spur. Forewing 2.9X as long as wide; relative measurements, marginal:postmarginal:stigmal veins = 36:7:2.5; stigmal vein short, but uncus twice as long as in B. masneri ; venation pale brown ( Fig. 15 View FIGURES 10 – 17 ).

Metasoma. A little longer than mesosoma; gaster 1.5X as long as high. Gt2–Gt4 deeply emarginate. Hypopygium 0.9X as long as gaster. Ovipositor 4.3X as long as gaster, ovipositor index 5.7 ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1 – 3 ).

MALE. Length of body 2.0 mm. Similar to female except as follows: funicular segments inconspicuously pedicellate ( Figs 16, 17 View FIGURES 10 – 17 ), flagellar segments more transverse, relative measurements = 18:3.5:1:11:9:9:8.5:7:7:6:16; pedicel 1.2X, anellus 0.5X, F1 2.2X, F2 1.5X, F3 1.4X, F4 1.2X, F5 1.0X, F6 1.0X, F7 0.9X and clava 2.5X as long as broad. POL 2.7X OOL, the latter 0.9X OD. Legs with femora stouter, mid tibial spur 1.8X width of tibia. Forewing 2.5X as long as wide. Gaster 2.1X as long as high, all tergites without emargination on posterior margin.

Variation. One paratype female (USNM) is darker, with the scape, pedicel, gaster and legs dark brown. All measurements are the same as in the holotype except the following: length of body 2.5 mm, length of ovipositor 4.5 mm, head 1.2 as broad as high, HTE:MSP = 2.7, forewing 2.9 as long as wide, ovipositor 4.7X as long as metasoma, ovipositor index 5.8.

Biology. The specimens were reared from galls on Anemopaegma chrysoleucum (Bignoniaceae) induced by an undetermined (probably undescribed) species of Cecidomyiidae (Diptera) . The galls consisted of swellings of the stem, petiole, midvein, and tendrils; each gall was about 10 mm long and 4–7 mm wide, and there were often a long series of galls (like a string of pearls). Because no other parasitoids were reared from these galls B. tatianae is presumably a primary parasitoid the cecidomyiid larvae and/or pupae.

Distribution. Costa Rica.
