ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1865a: 141.

TYPE LOCALITY: “ in Alpibus Insubriae [Insubrian (= Lombardy, Italy) Alps]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, syntype ( MZUF: Box 7): Chrysotoxum alpinum Rndn., Alpi / 354 / Chrysotoxum arcuatum (= alpinum Rnd. ), det. M. Daccordi, 1985.

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Chrysotoxum fasciatum (Müller, 1764) ( Peck 1988: 56, Belcari et al. 1995a: 9).

REMARKS: Rondani (1865a: 141) described Crysotoxum alpinum from just the male sex, without specifying either the number or the length of the specimens. We found one syntype in this study. Rondani described this nominal species under the generic name “ Crysotoxum ”, which is an “incorrect subsequent spelling of Chrysotoxum Meigen, 1803 ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 66)”.
