ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1875b: 173 (key), 174 (description).

TYPE LOCALITY: “ in agro parmensi [ Parmese territory ( Italy)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, lectotype ( MZUF: Box 35): Domomyza Rnd. / frontella Rndn. / 1871 / lectotype [not designated] ♀ K.A.S., 17.II.[19]64; 2 ♀♀, paralectotypes (one missing head and abdomen) ( MZUF: Box 35): Domomyza Rnd. / frontella Rndn. / 1871.

CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Agromyza frontella View in CoL ( Papp 1984b: 266, Canzoneri et al. 1995: 9). The type species of the genus Domomyza ( Domomyza cincta ) belongs to Drosophilidae View in CoL , not Agromyzidae View in CoL (see note on this nominal species, p. 108).

REMARKS: Rondani (1875b: 174) described Domomyza frontella without specifying either the number or the sex of the specimens, but giving a single measurement of length, but presumably from more than one specimen because he wrote: “ non rara [not rare]”. Kenneth A. Spencer ( Spencer & Martinez 1987: 254) examined the MZUF material in 1964, adding the label “ lectotype ” under one female, but without, as far as we know, publishing this lectotype designation ( Spencer 1973, 1976, 1990). We found three syntypes in the MZUF. In order to promote nomenclatural stability, we give credit to K.A. Spencer and here designate as a lectotype for Domomyza frontella Rondani, 1875 the MZUF female labeled as such by him.
