ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1856: 88.

TYPE LOCALITY: Rondani gave no type locality in his original description but later (1862d: 158) added “ in Pedemontii alpibus [Piedmont ( Italy) Alps]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, holotype (missing fore- and mid-legs) ( MZUF: Box 20): Tricogena Rnd. / truquii Rnd. / 1068.

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Tricogena rubricosa ( Meigen, 1824) View in CoL ( Pape 1989: 357, Herting 1993: 111, Peris & González-Mora 2007: 54; Cerretti et al. 2020: 103).

REMARKS: Rondani’s (1856: 88) key for the genus Tricogena Rondani, 1856 lists Tricogena truquii as its type species for the genus but he did not provide a detailed description, type locality, number or sex of the specimens. In his redescription Rondani (1862d: 157) specified having a single male: “ Unicum marem speciei observavi [I observed one male of this species]” received from E. Truqui. Pape (1989: 357) reported the holotype ♂ in the MZUF.
